Better Off

I just finished this book and just loved it. It is about a man who enters into a community for 18 months where motors of all kinds are banned, there is no electricity, no telephone, no cars. There IS an enormous sense of community, constant barter, almost no need for money, horses and buggies and a general homegrown life. He finds this life of manual labor to equal less work, better health, more happiness and contentment and extremely close bonds with friends and neighbors. I really enjoyed it and recommend it highly for anyone interested in moving towards "the good life", or is just interested in what that life may be like.

Hey! I have been checking out your blog and I really like it! Your taste in books is fantastic! I'm so glad we have been able to communicate these past few weeks.
As for the question you left on my blog; I was a bit curious about the soil bacteria and wanted to learn more but I wasn't able to find a lot out. I found another product which seems to be very similar called effective microorganisms. Here's a link: http://www.emamerica.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=164&Itemid=210
It seems very similar and there are probably more companies who sell it if you look under that name.
I haven't tried it yet, but this summer I have been spending as much time in the soil as I can. I love digging in the dirt and I think they mention in Maker's Diet that doing so can provide some of the same benefits.
I'll be thinking about this some more...
